About the Farm

In 1935, under President Roosevelt’s New Deal program, John and Julia Church came to the Matanuska-Susitna Valley and homesteaded what is now Moonstone Farm. John and Julia raised 7 children and worked the farm together until John’s passing in 1984. Julia would continue to live at and work on the farm until the late 1980’s, when age made it difficult for her to stay at the property. In 1995, John and Julia Church’s grandson, David, and his wife, Michelle, purchased the farm from Julia and began the process of returning the farm to production. Together with their two children, Jaimie and Johnathan, they worked to get the farm to the state it is in today. In 2007, they were joined by their grand-daughter, Lillian, who is the 5th generation Church to live on the farm.
